Weather data & attribution

Tennessee Weather Network is an independent weather website. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NOAA, the National Weather Service, or state government.

Forecasts, conditions, and alerts

Data is provided by the National Weather Service API. City forecasts use NWS grid points at the listed city coordinates. Observations come from a nearby reporting station identified on the page; that station may be outside the city. Airport observations can differ from conditions in your neighborhood. The temperature in the conditions panel is an observation; forecast temperatures are labeled separately.

Forecast requests are cached for 10–15 minutes. Observations are checked every 10 minutes and marked delayed after 90 minutes. Old observations are withheld after six hours. Alerts are checked every minute while a page is visible. If an alert check fails, we say so: an unavailable feed does not mean there are no alerts. Expired alerts are removed. Delayed cached forecasts are labeled and expired periods are excluded. All displayed times use the selected city’s local time unless labeled otherwise.

Radar and forecast maps

Radar uses NWS RIDGE2 quality-controlled base reflectivity. Each frame has a source timestamp. Radar metadata refreshes every two minutes while the page is visible. Radar may lag the current time and precipitation can be missed because of terrain, beam height, or outages. A radar image is not a warning system.

Temperature, 12-hour precipitation probability, and wind maps use the official NWS National Digital Forecast Database WMS. These are NWS-produced gridded forecast fields; the site does not create a new meteorological analysis or use AI to invent weather. Forecast-map time choices refresh every 15 minutes. The rain-map valid time is the end of the 12-hour period. The official map viewer includes the complete color legend and additional layers.

State boundaries come from the U.S. Census Bureau TIGERweb 2026 state layer, simplified for display. Base maps are © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License. Interactive maps use Leaflet 1.9.4 (BSD license). NOAA/NWS source material is public domain, subject to the NWS data-use policy. Original source attribution is retained; site design copyright does not apply to NWS weather information.

Privacy and reliability

There are no advertising trackers, accounts, or third-party analytics on this site. Your selected city is saved in this browser using local storage. The hosting server keeps standard request logs for operation and troubleshooting. Interactive maps request tiles from OpenStreetMap and NOAA/NWS, which receive standard connection information such as your IP address.

Internet weather data can be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable. Use official NWS guidance, Wireless Emergency Alerts, NOAA Weather Radio, and local emergency management for urgent decisions. Maintain more than one way to receive warnings.
